The New Real 2

Last year, people from all over the world came together at io9.com to take part in The New Real, an intense 2-day livewriting event. The story centred on Mack Darvey, a disgraced cop who’s been reassigned to the intergalactic Controlled Substances Agency — a suicide mission that he’s more than happy to accept.

WTF is livewriting?

Livewriting is a kind of performance where an author creates a novel from scratch in a super-compressed timeframe (usually 2-3 days). But rather than just toiling in isolation, in livewriting, the audience gets chapter updates every hour, and gets to influence the direction of the story by answering questions via a website or Twitter. It’s unpredictable, insane and a whole new level of fun. It’s like distributed MadLibs on speed. You have to see it to understand.
