About 1889 Labs

“I have seen the future of books, and it is Victoria’s [MCM]“.
— Adrian Chamberlain, Victoria Times Colonist

Hi there!  I’m MCM, and I write stuff.

I created a TV series called RollBots, which is playing Saturday mornings around the world as we speak.  When not making cartoon shows, I do something called Livewriting, which is like live, improvisational novel-writing on the internet.  It has to be seen to be appreciated.

I’ve written a bunch of stories, from the kids’ books The Pig and the Box, TorrentBoy and Xander and the Wind to adult thrillers like The Vector, Typhoon and The New Real.  You can find my works in print or as eBooks, often in many, many languages.

“MCM is one of the most unique voices working in SciFi today.”
— Martin Gero, Producer, Stargate: Atlantis, Stargate: Universe

I have a long history in technology (I built this website myself), and am active in the Free Culture movement.  My writing has been praised by Richard Stallman, founder of the Free Software Foundation, as well as Cory Doctorow, a pioneering author in the world of science fiction.  I believe in sane copyright, which is why all my works are Creative Commons licensed.

I don’t do things the easy way, or even the reasonable way… but I get things done.  My goal is to bring you on an amazing adventure… onscreen, and off.  I hope you’ll take me up on the offer.
