Marketing Ideas

by MCM on September 2, 2009

I asked the Twitterverse for ideas about how to market my books, and got lots of great answers. Here’s what I’ve figured out:

(note: these all relate to The Vector. Don’t ask me why)

  1. Branded surgical masks would be a great idea, especially around flu season.  Just slap a “The Vector” on it and a URL and you’re done!
  2. Plush microbes are fun.  Cuddle up with a deathly pathogen!
  3. Fake protest posters are easy and catch your attention.  ”PROTEST THE ALBANIAN BLACK ZONE!” or “MEDICAL PATENTS KILL!” could be fun.  Tho how to connect that to the book itself…?
  4. The ever-witty Chris Keyes suggests mailing in-story virus threats to major newspapers (“on september 20 we will unleash bonn-5 on the world… you have been warned!”), but I think he just wants me to get arrested.
  5. Flashmobs are vital. Get everyone wearing branded surgical masks, carrying plush microbes, and get them to dance to a variant of “Thriller”.  This will take a lot of work to organize, I think.
  6. Blimp advertising.  Drop branded syringes from the blimp?  Or is that dangerous?
  7. Free t-shirts print with something like “I survived the Paris outbreaks (and all I got was this lousy t-shirt to cover my scars)”.  Or something.

All in all, an excellent brainstorming session!  I am going to research all the ideas and see what I can come up with.  Victory is within my grasp!

And/or jail time.

Update: witness Praguey the Pathogen!
