Marketing Ideas
by MCM on September 2, 2009
I asked the Twitterverse for ideas about how to market my books, and got lots of great answers. Here’s what I’ve figured out:
(note: these all relate to The Vector. Don’t ask me why)
- Branded surgical masks would be a great idea, especially around flu season. Just slap a “The Vector” on it and a URL and you’re done!
- Plush microbes are fun. Cuddle up with a deathly pathogen!
- Fake protest posters are easy and catch your attention. ”PROTEST THE ALBANIAN BLACK ZONE!” or “MEDICAL PATENTS KILL!” could be fun. Tho how to connect that to the book itself…?
- The ever-witty Chris Keyes suggests mailing in-story virus threats to major newspapers (“on september 20 we will unleash bonn-5 on the world… you have been warned!”), but I think he just wants me to get arrested.
- Flashmobs are vital. Get everyone wearing branded surgical masks, carrying plush microbes, and get them to dance to a variant of “Thriller”. This will take a lot of work to organize, I think.
- Blimp advertising. Drop branded syringes from the blimp? Or is that dangerous?
- Free t-shirts print with something like “I survived the Paris outbreaks (and all I got was this lousy t-shirt to cover my scars)”. Or something.
All in all, an excellent brainstorming session! I am going to research all the ideas and see what I can come up with. Victory is within my grasp!
And/or jail time.
Update: witness Praguey the Pathogen!
